WIMBN Article guideline for contributors

Thank you for your interest in writing an article for the Women In Mortgage Business Network. WIMBN has a monthly e-newsletter that is distributed to 3,000 people per month. Articles are also stored in our library on our website.

The WIMBN reader is predominantly female (we do have male Managers and strong advocates from the Industry as members.) Many of our readers are self-employed or have the spirit of an entrepreneur, and consequently may wear many hats from sales to PR to marketing. They rely on WIMBN for information to assist, as well as the inspiration gained from other Women having walked a similar path. Our members and subscribers are from, or connected with, the wider Financial Services and include:

•    Mortgage Brokers
•    Financial Planners
•    Accountants/Book-keepers
•    Valuers
•    Real Estate Agents
•    Recruitment Consultants
•    Business Coaches
•    Lenders/Bank representatives

Why write for WIMBN?

By contributing articles you will not only be supporting the female readers by providing information about your area of speciality,  you will also be raising your own profile and increasing the chance to connect with thousands of businesswomen in associated industries across Australia.

From time to time, WIMBN receives requests from Industry publications, media and business organisations for interviews and articles for republication. If you would like your article to be considered for publication apart from WIMBN, please complete the Release Form.

The Article

Article Length

•    Articles should be 450 – 800 words in length
•    Your professional profile should be no more than 80 words in length

Article Content

Articles should be targeted to women and include up to date market knowledge relevant to the wider Financial Services or women in business. Please write the the article from the spirit of adding value to the reader and not as an advertisment for your business. Your business web address may be added at the end of the article for readers who wish to know more about your business.

Here are a few tips to get you started on writing your article so that it gets read in its entirety:

1) Use short paragraphs that provide a fact or a valuable piece of information for the reader. Often, when authors write articles, they get so wrapped up with what they are trying to say that the sentence rambles on. This may result in the sentence or paragraph becoming quite confusing and difficult to read.
2) Use numbers and bullets to highlight the key points, tips, or guides. This will indicate to the reader where the key points of the article are, and will also make the points easier to digest and remember. Nominate a short quote from the article that may be included in a breakout box to catch the reader’s attention and encourage them to read the whole article.
3) Use a title to the article that is attention-grabbing. If your title is enticing and grabs the reader's attention in some way, you are already half-way to getting a person to read the entire article.
4) If possible, use real life situations that can be adopted by the reader. Use good descriptions and metaphors to drive in your point. Graphic metaphors and similes would make it easier for the reader to imagine what it is you are talking about.
5) If there are any facts and figures that you can use in your topic, then do so. Using specific facts can heighten your article because it makes it authoritative. However, blend these facts into the article lightly rather than being too formal. Facts, figures and quotes should be qualified and the source identified.
.

Professional Profile of the Author/s

•    Your profile should detail in no more than 80 words who you are and what experience and qualifications you have relevant to the topic.
